Students Teaching Students is on a mission to revolutionize education—one student-led class at a time. We believe that undergraduate students have so much more to offer than taking a passive role in learning. Rather, their unique experiences, research, and talents are integral parts of education and deserve an active spot at the front of the room.

Since Spring 2020, we've enabled students to design and teach 41 official student-led courses at Penn State. Over 200 students have taken STS-powered courses that have analyzed the rhetoric behind Kanye's music, explored the history of ancient goddesses, and offered free LSAT prep.

We're a small team of four right now, but we're growing quickly and are ready to scale our mission to the next level. If you take ownership in your work, aren't afraid to challenge the status quo, and care deeply about leveling up education at Penn State, then we'd love to meet you!

• We equip and enable Penn State undergrad students to design, build, and teach the courses they want to see at Penn State.
• What we do includes recruiting students to be Student Instructors, connecting aspiring instructors with Faculty Champions, building a support team for instructors, and marketing student-led courses across campus to fill seats.
• STS courses are designed to be a valuable and memorable addition to a student’s educational experience at Penn State. Ranging from 1 to 3 credits, student-led courses are electives that prioritize student engagement and fostering peer-to-peer collaboration. Courses are listed across various colleges and are open to all Penn State students.
• We're on a bold, untraditional mission that attracts lovers (and some haters). Over the past year, we've done something unprecedented: we unlocked the mechanism for students to design an official credit-bearing course, and we're using it as a platform to democratize education.

We believe that students can teach.

Every year, Penn State students raise millions to fight pediatric cancer. They conduct world-class research, write creative musicals, and win national championships. Against all odds, they defy expectations, wielding technology, culture, and education in creative ways.

Yet, where do we put them in most classrooms? The back—passively digesting lectures. The tens of thousands of students at Penn State have incredibly unique experiences, talents, and backgrounds that deserve to be shared from the front.

We believe that everyone wins when students take on the role of teaching in classrooms:

• Student Instructors learn effective communication, and learn their subject matter from a new, deeper perspective.
• Students taking student-led courses get a fresh student-led perspective through a niche and exciting addition to their schedule.
• Faculty and academic departments are able to expand their course offerings, filling the gaps between broader, existing courses.
