If you like the sound of us, please contact Jan (or Iain) by mail, phone, text, What’s App.

We are mostly multiple myeloma patients and partners. Our patient led group exists because our members feel it adds value to their wellbeing and positivity to their lives to talk with other patients who share a similar condition.

<aside> 🤝

Our current focus is on active myeloma. Some of our members have the precursor condition smouldering myeloma and may wish to hear more about what might happen if progression to active occurs.

There are AML and MGUS (non-cancer, but precursor) patients in MKUH. Anyone who wishes to learn more about myeloma is welcome.

There is a separate Lymphoma and a Leukemia support group in MK click here.

But not everyone affected by myeloma will join us.

Some patients will have alternative family and friend based support, others may wish to keep their cancer quiet, to themselves, their families and community, and others may not have English as a first language and cannot see how they can communicate with us, and others may feel that right now isn’t the time to join.

Every one of us is unique. Myeloma is a blood cancer caused by random genetic damage of the stem cells in the bone marrow, and each of us is uniquely affected. Our light chains may be out of kilter in a kappa or lambda manner, our paraprotein may be high or low, our genetics standard lower or multiple higher risk, we may be young or old.

We will have a brief chat with you about your own situation and our group. We will talk to you about Myeloma UK (MUK) our patron organisation, to whom (outside our own specialist clinical nurses) we can turn to for clinical information. If there is something immediate we can do to assist we will try, if not then we would see you on What’s App or the next meeting.

Our profile is largely older 50+, however we are partners with other Myeloma Support Groups around the UK, and the 50s and under Support Group (if you are of that age and prefer to join that Group we can help arrange).
