tl;dr: Early-stage startup hiring a Lead Designer, encompassing responsibility over User Experience, Interaction, and Visual design for the Levels product and brand (US-timezones, please — around GMT-5 / GMT-8). We're improving people's metabolic health using new wearables and insights. Details about us, the role, and interview process below.

Who we are

Levels is an early-stage startup working to improve people's metabolic health. If you want to know what we're all about, you should check out The Secret Levels Master Plan (just between us).

Poor metabolic health is a risk factor for many diseases, and few people have the right tools to create positive feedback loops with their diet and exercise. We've seen massive value in using wearables, including continuous glucose monitors, to help behavioral change.

We're still in the scrappy startup phase, having just raised our Seed round of $12M led by a16z, so we are looking for people who are comfortable with ambiguity and having wide impact. We've been remote-first since Day 1, and care a ton about communication, autonomy, curiosity, and initiative.

We've been running a Beta pilot since last year, and have thousands of happy paying customers who are using Levels to stabilize their energy levels, lose weight, optimize athletic performance, and learn strategies to reduce risk of chronic disease. Customer excitement has been off the charts. Our waitlist is at 72k people and accelerating — grown without marketing spend. We're currently preparing for a public launch.

Our team is highly experienced, and has started and sold companies before. We also love learning from each other, and are looking for people who bring a new set of experiences and backgrounds to our team.

Role overview

First and foremost, we're looking for people who are excited about what we're doing—you don't need to know anything about metabolic health, but should be excited to learn. We're building in an entirely new space, so you'll be able to use creativity to help us solve problems and delight our customers.

As our first design hire, you'll be responsible for a wide surface area, including all aspects of user experience, interaction design, and design systems for our core app and web flows as well as be expected to help out with anything that comes along with starting the company. Roles and job descriptions at our early stage are necessarily ambiguous and cover a huge portfolio of responsibilities, so we need someone who thrives in that environment.

Among the responsibilities for the role:
