How to Join the UNEP Hackathon Discord Server – Step by Step
- Get the invite link
- Create or log in to a Discord account
- New to Discord?
- On the welcome page, choose “Register”.
- Enter an email, create a username, set a strong password, and verify your age.
- Check your inbox for a verification e‑mail and click the confirmation button.
- Already have Discord?
- Click “Login”, enter your credentials, and you’re good to go.
- Choose where to open Discord
- Browser only – quick, no download: click “Continue in Browser.”
- Desktop app – recommended for stable voice/video: click “Open Discord” (or download from discord.com if you don’t have it).
- Mobile app – iOS/Android: install Discord from the App Store/Google Play, then tap the invite link.
- Join the server
- After logging in, you’ll see “You’ve been invited to join UNEP Hackathon 2025.”
- Click “Accept Invite.”
- You’ll land in the server’s #welcome channel.
- Complete the server onboarding
- Read the short rules & click ✅ or “Complete” to unlock all channels.
- Update your Nickname to: First‑Name | Team‑# (e.g., Amina | Team‑5)
- Right‑click your name (desktop) ➜ Edit Server Profile or tap your profile (mobile) ➜ Change Nickname.
- Find your spaces
- #announcements – official updates & event links.
- #help‑desk – technical or logistics questions.
- #team‑rooms – a private text and voice channel created for every team (your organiser will add you).
- #general‑chat – mingle with all participants, mentors, and organisers.
- Set your notifications
- Click the server name ➜ Notification Settings and choose either
- “Only @mentions” to avoid noise, or
- “All Messages” if you don’t want to miss anything.
- Introduce yourself
- Post a quick hello in #general‑chat: who you are, your skills, and a fun fact!
- Test voice/video (optional but useful)
- Enter your team’s voice channel, click the microphone icon to unmute, and run “Test Video” if you plan to present or code‑share there.
- Bookmark or pin the server
- Desktop: right‑click the server icon ➜ “Mark as Read” to clear notification dots and drag it to the top of your server list.
- Mobile: long‑press the server icon ➜ “Add to Home Screen” for quick access (Android).
