Do you feel in charge? You shouldn’t - plans have a way of going awry, driven askew by an invisible, indiscriminate, and ubiquitous enemy, variance. Cancer and autoimmunity (to name but a few conditions) can be conceptualized as physical manifestations of negative biological variance. Variance though has a means, and demystifying its mechanisms and means is a fascinating area of research. Leveraging data analysis and state of the art techniques in pattern recognition, I focus on both identifying mechanisms of disease and quantifying individual disease risk.

To paraphrase from Spectre, we may all be kites dancing in a hurricane, but I’d at least like to know which way the wind is blowing. May the odds be ever in your favor!
