Consumers are focused on paying rent and putting food on the table, they don’t have the time or resources to demand clean energy. Whereas the fossil fuel industry has so much power that they can bribe elected officials to implement subsidies that artificially reduce the price of fossil fuels, ultimately forcing the consumer to rely on fossil fuels.

It’s this power imbalance that places responsibility for the climate crisis on the fossil fuel industry, and the Senators that they purchase. Responsibility is proportional to power, and it would be immoral to blame consumers given how little power they have compared to the fossil fuel industry.
