The African continent is experiencing a real digital boom with the boom of smartphones, mobile-payment and the emergence of "unicorns" already proven, such as Jumia, or potential, such as Interswitch or M-Kopa Solar for example. At the same time, ecosystems have been set up with the development of dedicated structures (incubators / accelerators / media / tech hubs...) and the creation of numerous investment funds that enable the financing of these new start-ups, although the available financing offer still lags far behind international standards. Orange, a major mobile and internet player in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, is already one of the main players in this digital revolution in Africa, and has the strategic assets to benefit from this positive dynamic: large customer base, massive distribution network and strong brand image, digital payment methods, APIs, Technocentre...
Given the growth of the technology scene in Africa, and in order to consolidate Orange's position as a leader in the digital transformation of the continent, Orange has set up a dedicated structure reporting directly to the Group's Deputy CEO: Orange Ventures Africa, the €50m investment fund dedicated to Africa, which aims to take minority stakes in early stage start-ups in relation to the strategic themes of the Orange Group (new connectivity, digital enterprise, Fintech, E-commerce, e-health, agritech, ...).
