Visual Novel Maker turns Foundry VTT into a visual novel engine. You can run scripted dialogue scenes, field examinations, branching stories, and live improvised sessions with full character staging, backgrounds, camera work, and audio.
The module works with any game system. No dependencies are required, though it optionally integrates with Cinematic Cut-ins and Unboxing the Mystery for enhanced effects.
Build branching dialogue trees with a visual node editor. Each node holds a sequence of dialogue lines, narration, and actions (background changes, music, camera movements, character entrances). Connect nodes with player choices or direct links.
Run visual novel scenes in real time without pre-scripting. The GM types dialogue, manages characters, and controls the stage from a dedicated panel. Works with voice chat sessions too: the module can detect who is speaking via microphone and highlight the corresponding character.
Players trigger interactions by walking near NPC tokens or entering map regions. The GM can also start interactions through the Token HUD or a keybind.
Elegant, Indigo, Detective, Fantasy, Romance, and SF. Each theme changes the dialogue box, nameplate, choice buttons, and system bar appearance. You can also build fully custom overlay styles.
Choices can resolve instantly (first click) or through a voting system where all players vote and the GM confirms the result.
Characters appear as standing portraits on the VN stage. You can configure multiple expression groups, lip sync animations, entrance cut-ins, and per-character scaling.
The module provides several entry points depending on what you want to do.
