🎉 The Role

Your Core Responsibilities

You will work on next generation robotic features for the Maestro system, prototyping novel interaction paradigms between users (surgeons) and the Maestro system.

Your Day-to-day Activities

Design and implement a novel robot-surgeon interaction paradigm:

• Work with our Clinical team to recognize clinical needs
• Work with our Systems team draft system-level input requirements to meet those needs
• Design a solution systematically to meet input requirements
• Prototype the solution on a test-bench, followed by controlled tests on the Maestro system
• Algorithm design:
  • Prototype algorithms to interpret Surgeon’s intent, for ex. using voice, and send appropriate commands to the Maestro system.
  • Evaluate the performance of the algorithm and modify it to ensure it meets the intended requirements.
  • Integrate the algorithm into the Maestro system and document the process.

Test-method development:

• Understand the need to develop reliable tests for all sub-systems in the Maestro system
• Develop required test(s)
• Document the test method and early results using our Quality Management System (QMS)

How You’ll Fit In

You will be an integral part of the Moon Surgical team as we develop new features for the next-generation of the Maestro platform. It is very likely that one, or more, of the features that you work on will be used by surgeons to perform a critical procedure on their patients. You will report to our Staff Robotics Systems Engineer as you obtain hands-on experience within a growing medical device start-up.

This full-time (40 hours/week), paid internship will be on-site at our office in San Carlos, California. At this ideal Bay Area location, we are mid-way between San Francisco and San Jose with easy access to city life, nature, the Pacific Ocean, and any activities you may enjoy doing during your summer with Moon Surgical.
