Guidelines & discussion questions during the initial meetings between nonprofit partners and project teams!
How to Use
- Read 'High Level Goal' to understand why this is important
- During one of the first meetings between nonprofits and project teams, use these questions to frame the discussion – should be led by project leads
- Edit and add questions as you see fit
High Level Goal
This initial discussion aims to give project teams a better understanding of their partner's work, mission, and values, in order to fully understand the context surrounding the project and how the project helps advance the mission of the nonprofit.
- TL;DR we want members to understand that these projects help our partners grow and overcome a challenge, as opposed to just a technical challenge with a technical solution
While working on these projects, our relationships should be framed such that we work with the nonprofits and not for them.
- As project leaders and executives, we have the responsibility of framing and facilitating these open discussions with our nonprofits.
- Help make space for team members to discuss and ask these questions
Nonprofit-Specific Questions
- Can you tell me about the work your organization does and the program or programs you run?
- Can you tell a story/example of the best way your organization's work makes a difference? What do you think your constituents or beneficiaries would say is the best thing about your organization?
- What communities do you serve?
- Is there anything that you wish more people knew about your organization or the issues
you are trying to solve?
- What are your most urgent needs?
