Investment Banking

Investment bankers are strategic financial advisors to companies. They help their clients raise capital through equity and debt and purchase other companies.

Investment bankers gain a mix of hard and soft skills to include corporate valuation and financial modeling. Bankers work with top executives at target companies, so as a junior banker you may find yourself in a meeting with a C-suite executive helping them understand whether an acquisition of another company makes sense.

This career path can be very demanding as investment bankers tend to work very long hours, but it is well compensated with pay and bonus being among the highest for entry-level employees.

Consulting

Management consultants are hired by companies to help solve their clients’ toughest problems. Consultants help their clients improve operational efficiency, integrate a new acquisition, expand into new markets, or improve their supply chain.

Pre-covid, consultants typically traveled to the client site every week Monday - Thursday, but some consultants employ a “home station” model where their consultants travel less. Consultants tend to be well compensated and work on a diverse array of problem sets.
