For the final project you are free to decide on a topic and a medium to work with. The project will be presented during the 14th lesson and will be open to the public. Together you have to take care of finding a suitable space and you are responsible for organizing the event.

You are free in choosing your subject, but to give you an idea here a few possibilities:

For next class bring some information/references on the subject of choice, visual as well as written information. Let your project be personal, but with personal I don’t necessarily mean about yourself, but more from and by yourself, about your interests/ideas/thoughts, how you relate yourself to the world around you of which you are part. Make your ideas a bit more abstract so they transform from private to universal. Keep your audience in mind, how do you want to reach them. Presentation is also a big part of this project, but we will discuss this during the next lessons.

17 Homework exercise

A Choose 2 opposing exhibitions which took place at the MoMA, New York. The 2 exhibitions should be opposites, but have to be related as well (like warm versus cold, but less literal of course). For example most new art movements were a reaction to the then current way of making art. Or different media, the differences and relations between performance and sculpture, conceptual art from the 1970’s in relation to the renewing interest in painting during the 1980’s. Write a text about both shows of your choice: how different and how related they are, your opinion, ideas and interest in the exhibitions/art pieces/artists.

1: go to https://www.moma.org 2: select: exhibitions and events 3: browse exhibition history 4: choose from the list or enter an artist or key word

Examples for key words: artist names of curse, art movements, a certain year, photo, figuration, abstraction, minimalism, sculpture, etc, or any art form you are curious at.

B Think about a possible subject/concept for your Independent Project. We will start working on the third project from next lesson, 18th of April, till the presentation in lesson 14, 9th of May.
