This Master-level project explores the application of systematic UI design in a fast-paced, multiplayer environment. Through critical analysis and redesign of Overwatch 2’s interface, the project aims to restore clarity, consistency, and user flow across menus and game layers.
Problem
Valorant’s competitive design prioritizes clarity and precision, but UX/UI choices created friction:
- Overloaded HUD elements cluttered the screen.
- Agent abilities lacked consistent readability in fast-paced fights.
- Cross-region ping and communication tools limited accessibility.
Outcome
- Tactical readability improved through clear color coding, but visual noise increased under stress.
- Ability indicators gave strategic depth but were difficult for new players to parse quickly.
- Voice & text chat supported teamwork, yet inconsistent moderation tools caused frustration.
Learnings
- Minimalism in HUD is essential for high-stakes play; less clutter improves player focus.
- Ability design must balance clarity vs. creativity to keep gameplay fair and readable.
- Accessibility in communication tools is key for inclusive, global eSports communities.
