A small prototype of chunky 3D painting, inspired by the impasto technique of real painting.
Top dial on the left is brush width, bottom dial is the brush thickness. Color picker is on the right. User paints by clicking and dragging the mouse on a canvas. Camera can be moved with a right-click motion.
Even dramatically tall objects can be painted(with great effort). Smoke was added by painting horizontal to the plume.
A lighter touch is possible too.
It's pretty fun just piling strokes on top of each other.
