Imagine a future where Ilkley has successfully made a just transition to a sustainable, resilient, zero carbon town. What is life like in that future version of Ilkley? What will have changed? What has been lost, and what preserved?

There are many possible answers to these questions because the future is unpredictable and unknowable, and we all bring our own unique perspective and lived experience when imagining any potential future. If we believe that such change is possible, then this context becomes empowering. It gives us permission to be creative, in fact it demands creativity. Carrying on as we have been is no longer an adequate or appropriate response.

The Climate and Ecological Emergency will affect all of us, it is important as a community we learn how to meaningfully and inclusively engage with each other to develop shared stories and inspire creative responses to the challenges we are facing.

COVID-19 has shown us that we are more adaptable than we previously imagined, and that it is possible for things to be different.

The story so far...

Valuable work has already been done to sketch out a course for the development of Ilkley through the Ilkley Neighbourhood Development Plan and the Ilkley Sustainability Plan. We want to build upon these by:

We cannot actively move forwards if we don't know where we are going and we cannot base where we want to go on the realities of how things are today. We cannot control the future, but we can act with intention to influence its direction.

We need you!

We want to build a crew, to set out upon this voyage of discovery, and help build, document, and then realise this vision for Ilkley’s future. We are looking for people who will take action, who are creative, empathic, courageous and collaborative. People who will be part of defining how we work together, shaping our course, and helping us to navigate it.

We need you!
