Intro

I hope the description is enough to get to know what it is about. But, still if you don’t know, this is a millionth app that tries to be YouTube where you can upload videos and watch videos uploaded by others. But, this at the same time will have some features which will make it different from the existing ones, atleast I hope for that.

Tech Stack

Absolutely going with Golang, that’s my second fav. Then, for the frontend it is not decided yet because this is going to be done by someone else, most prolly i am dumping SvelteKit on them to built with. Then, yeah Kubernetes for the transcoding part, I am aware of it but I need to take a look at it again. Database is going to be Postgre, that is an apt choice; what else I can’t think of anything else as of now. Supabase Buckets for the videos, not so sure, as Amazon S3 - I have already killed it as an alternative.

Features

Go to note it down right away and anyone who is going through it can suggest me some really cool features if that is originally their idea and that’s what they miss. Features are:

Oh God, my please suggest some new cool features.

What makes us Better?

Seriously, this poverty is what makes us better. No ads to show, we are broke and hence users can watch whatever they want without any frustration or wishing if they had some more money to buy the premium. There’s no algorithm trying to keep you watching. No creator trying to perform. No pressure to upload regularly. You upload videos because you want them to exist. People watch them because they choose to.

Breakdown for the Project Using W5HH

What: It is similar to Youtube where you can upload, watch, download and organize the videos accordingly.

Why: Sometimes, it can be hard to store the videos on the devices itself due to storage constraints, or if you want to organize them or share them with others on internet. It can be used as micro-vlogging site.

When: To complete this project, we might take 45 days to 60 days. This includes getting rid of the vulnerabilities, bugs and making it easier and fun to use.

Where: It will be available as a webapp, no need to install on your devices, directly access through your browser.

Who: It is going to be useful for the people who love to share about their daily life with others, or micro-vloggers, etc.

How: It is going to be built using Modern Tech like SvelteKit, Golang, Kubernetes and Supabase. Golang is known for its efficiency with cloud infra, supabase buckets for the videos storage, SvelteKit for the client and Kubernetes for the transcoding.

How Much: It is going to be a no-cost project, as I will be using docker for the no cost infra locally and then we will be using Render and Vercel for the services like client hosting and server hosting.
