Hi, I’m Ian! 👋
I am a Researcher at Figma, where I work on the Rapid Research team to help product builders get quick answers to important questions thru qual/quant human insights.
Creativity is about connecting observation with imagination.
I’m all about both.

Today I work on the rapid research team at Figma. I really enjoy this role because I get to run fast paced product-focused research for teams from AI to Growth. My role is very collaborative, touches some interesting product problems around the org, and allows me to make a difference by doing something I really enjoy: product research on a deadline!
I have had the opportunity to run ~8-12 projects per quarter across many topics:
- unreleased product concept evaluation,
- quarter-over-quarter benchmarking surveys,
- Artificial Intelligence usability and interaction testing,
- benchmarking mobile interactions in a pop-up lab at Figma HQ,
- future-facing "how might we serve this audience" type explorations, and
- collaborative mixed-methods research between data science, the domain SME UXR, and rapid qual uxr (me) to understand how entry point options are performing and why.
In 2023 I ran 75+ moderated sessions and over 60 hours of interviews 🎉 💬 🙌
Experience
I am comfortable with a range of mixed methods research from qual to quant, and often select multiple methods which complement one another. I can work both in-person and remote.
- I have directly presented my findings to a few gajillionaires and countless c-suites
- I have contributed to projects ranging from business strategy through to alpha testing
- I am self-managing and have led research projects from estimation through final delivery
- I recruit equitably with a mind toward inclusion, vulnerable populations, and user jobs
- I have extensive experience collaborating on high-performing cross-functional teams
- I collaborate with designers, developers, and product stakeholders on every project
- I carry forward key opportunities into product iteration and evaluation
