Indigenous knowledge is defined as knowledge which is spatially and/or culturally context specific, collective, holistic, and adaptive. Source
Context specific knowledge that communities have developed themselves for centuries and allowed them to live in their environment for often long periods of time. Also referred to as “local” knowledge, indigenous knowledge is a set of perceptions, information and behaviors that guide local community members in terms of how to best use their natural resources. The knowledge that a local community accumulates over generations of living in a particular environment. This knowledge includes technologies, know-how, skills, practices and beliefs that enable a community to achieve a stable and sustainable livelihood. Source
