What This Is

This guide walks you through setting up WhatsApp as a two-way channel for Claude Code. Once set up, you can message your WhatsApp number and Claude will read, think, and reply — fully autonomous.

The setup uses:

• Evolution API — self-hosted WhatsApp gateway (runs in Docker)
• claude-whatsapp plugin — MCP channel server that bridges Evolution API ↔ Claude Code

Prerequisites

Before starting, install:

• Docker Desktop — runs Evolution API
• Bun — runs the Claude channel server (curl -fsSL <https://bun.sh/install> | bash)
• Claude Code v2.1.80 or later with a claude.ai account

Part 1 — Set Up Evolution API

1.1 Create project folder

Create a folder anywhere on your machine for the Evolution API stack:
