HHV-1 = HSV-1

HHV-2 = HSV-2

HHV-3 = Varicella-Zoster Virus

HHV-4 = Epstein-Barr Virus

HHV-5 = Cytomegalovirus

HHV-6 & 7 = Roseola

HHV-8 = Kaposi sarcoma

Transmission - Sex, saliva, Vertical (TORCH)

Cowdry bodies are eosinophilic nuclear inclusions composed of nucleic acid and protein seen in cells infected with Herpes simplex virus, Varicella-zoster virus, and Cytomegalovirus. They are named after Edmund Cowdry.

There are two types of intranuclear Cowdry bodies:

• Type A (as seen in herpes simplex,VZV CMV infections and Yellow fever) [1]
• Type B (as seen in infection with poliovirus), though it may seem that this is an antiquated and perhaps illusory type.
