Our approach to solving these localised and complex problems is based around Design Thinking. This is a tried and tested approach in the business world, but it has not been widely used employed in the context of schools and education.
Design Thinking Process Overview
The Design Thinking process is broadly described in the "hexagons" diagram, shown here. It originates from IDEO and Stanford University d.School, who were early pioneers of Design Thinking.
It begins with deeply understanding and correctly framing the problem, and then considering a wide variety of options. Finally, it covers prototyping and testing to validate ideas prior to implementation.
Our process is human centred. We look at problems and, ultimately the solution, from the perspective of those experiencing them.
Whilst solving complex problems may require a range of stakeholders, our process starts and ends with the learner.
