How to include scripts you have previously marked in school in a comparative judgement task

It may be that in addition to the scripts from a particular comparative judgement (CJ) task that your school is taking part in, you want to include some scripts in the CJ process that you have previously marked in school using some criteria. This might be because you want to see how the results from the CJ process compare with the previous marking process.

Please note, if you want to include scripts from a previous CJ task you are better off creating anchors from that previous task.

The main problem to overcome is that your previously marked scripts will not have a Code assigned to them in our system, which is a problem for including them in the judging process. So, we have to manually assign Codes to them. This is a guide for how to do that.

We are assuming that you have already uploaded the candidate details for the CJ task, have used the assessment template to generate Coded answer sheets for all these candidates, the candidates have completed the assessment, and you have uploaded scanned pdf files of these assessments into our system.

Now you need to add the additional assessments that you want to include.

Firstly, to add a certain number of additional scripts in the process, you need to create the same number of ‘fictitious’ candidates to link these additional scripts to.

To do this, click into your task from the task list and then click on Populate, generate, download & print coded sheets to take you to the Candidates page. Click on the View tab, and then use the Add Candidate button (the '+' icon) to add these dummy candidates to your candidate list, one at a time. (You can enter anything for the candidate information when prompted - but it's perhaps worthwhile naming them e.g. 'Prev Marked 1', 'Prev Marked 2', or 'Dummy 1', 'Dummy 2', ...)

In the example above, we can see 3 dummy candidates have been created manually. You can see that each pupil has been assigned a 6-figure Code. Make a note of these Codes for the dummy candidates.

Now go to the Scans link. Along with the CJ task scripts, upload your additional scripts that you want to include in the CJ process. You can do this at the same time as you upload the CJ scripts or afterwards.

Next, click on the Scan completed assessments & upload scans link and then click on the Choose Files button. Upload your additional scripts that you want to include in the CJ process. (You can either do this at the same time as you upload the CJ scripts, or you can do it afterwards - as long as it's done before the judging is carried out.)

Once the pdf files are uploaded into our system, you will see that these scripts that were previously marked in school and have now been uploaded to the system are flagged up as having Unread Codes.

In the example below, some CJ scripts were originally uploaded ('scripts-5.pdf') and then we uploaded three additional scripts to add to the process ('previously marked scripts.pdf').
