In mathematics, a fraction is irreducible when it cannot be reduced further.
This is where a given fraction is being presented in its absolute simplest form.
The core idea literally cannot be put forward in any clearer terms. Lets take the following example:
$$ \frac{24690}{37035} $$
This seems kind of scary. Did you read all those numbers out loud in your head? Did you notice that one of them was in a slightly smaller font? Probably not.
Now lets take this fraction:
$$ \frac{2}{3} $$
Did you read ‘two thirds’ out loud in your head? Probably.
Where are we going with this?
$2/3$ is $24690/37035$ written in irreducible terms. Divide both sides by the number ‘12345’ and see what you get.
We lose some detail in this translation, but we more than make up for it in how easily digestible the idea is. Consider the following example:
’How many did we lose?’
As an exercise for the reader, try answering the question twice.
First, with the large fraction - and then again with the small one, and for each option simply compare how much your imaginary conversation partner wants to hit you in the cranium with a stone.
There are cases where detail is important. Accounting, for example. But if you take 1000 words to say something that could have been answered equally as well with 10, you are just wasting everyone’s fucking time.
As Nietzche once so scathingly wrote:

That’s a killer quote.
