🧠 5.1 What You Need to Understand Before You Start

• Slang rarely shows up in regular dictionaries
• Music and TV shows have fast, informal speech full of contractions
• Natives swallow words — they say how ya doin instead of how are you doing
• You won’t understand everything at first — and that’s okay

That’s why the goal here is not to translate word by word, but to understand the context, the intention, and the vibeof what’s being said.

🎬 5.2 How to Learn With TV Shows

Step by step (active listening method):

1. Choose a short scene (30 seconds to 2 minutes) from a show with real English

   • Suggestions: Everybody Hates Chris, Power, Top Boy, Atlanta, Snowfall, Friday

2. Watch without subtitles

   • Try to understand the overall situation without stressing over details

3. Write down words or phrases you heard but didn’t understand

4. Turn on English subtitles

   • Read carefully and notice slang, unusual expressions, and the way people speak

5. Look up the slang on Urban Dictionary

   • Example: “He trippin’” = he’s overreacting / losing it

6. Repeat the lines out loud

   • Copy the rhythm, tone, and speed — this is shadowing

7. Add the most interesting slang to your notebook
