Brain Dumps 🧠 🗑️

Hello!

Welcome to Brain Dumps. Every week or so, I watch podcasts/shows/series that provide tons of value and fascinating ideas. I then compress the content into a quick, 10-15-minute reads. The format is easy, digestible, and is something you can easily refer back to.

Alright, let's get started. This week, let's learn about growing your business through writing with David Perell and Sahil Lavingia.

7:15 - Sahil's Presentation Begins

This presentation talks about how to grow a business you currently have.

Sahil Lavingia is the creator of Gumroad. It's a site that helps creators (basically anyone that makes digital content) directly sell to their audience.

Every creator is a writer.

Every business owner is a writer.

Everyone is a writer.

You might think that you won't use writing that often. That's not true. You write all the time, every day. And since it's inevitable, you might as well get good as it.

For a normal day at Gumroad, there's no meetings, standups, phone calls, set schedules, emails, or office. This is all contingent in believing that people can write efficiently.

Writing Philosophy

Writing is a simple way to think through ideas before you tell anybody else. When you talk aloud, charisma, ego, and personality take over your ideas. You're thinking on the fly. Charisma wins conversations, not the best ideas.
