Step 1: On your home screen, scroll up to your taskbar at the top of your screen and click on your Wi-Fi icon (Top right).
Step 2: In the Wi-Fi menu, ensure that Wi-Fi is turned on in the top right corner. After Wi-Fi is turned on, if you are not already on it, select “Eduroam” from the networks listed under “Other networks.”
Step 3: If you have not already logged onto the Eduroam Wi-Fi network previously, you will be prompted with this login popup. After “Account name,” list your full Calvin University email address, including “@calvin.edu” at the end; after “Password,” use your personal Calvin University password that you would use for other Calvin University-related services. After entering your personal information, select the “Remember the information” check box to avoid having to repeat this part of the process in the future. Note: connecting to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network is only relevant to your personal Apple laptop; all edit suites and lab computers are connected to the network with an ethernet cable and do not require Wi-Fi. If you are not connected to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network on your personal computer, you will not be able to access the server.
Step 4: After connecting to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network from your home screen, scroll down to the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and right-click the “Finder” application, most likely at the bottom left of your screen, represented by a smiley face icon. After right-clicking the Finder app, select the “Connect to Server” option.
Step 5: In the “Server Address” bar of the “Connect to Server” pop-up, type in the phrase, following the colon, exactly: COMM-Media-Server. After typing in the previous phrase, click the “Connect” button at the bottom left of the pop-up.
Step 6: After clicking the connect button in the previous pop-up, you will be presented with a new window asking how you would like to connect to the server. Choose the “Guest” option. Do not select “Registered user.” After selecting “Guest,” click “Connect” in the bottom right corner.
Step 7: At this point, you are connected to the server. If you have trouble locating the server, you can click the “Network” button from the options on the left side of your “Finder” window.
Step 8: After hitting the “Network” button, you will most likely be presented with several options. Select the “Students” option; this is the server. From here, you can retrieve and upload content to your relevant class folder.
Step 9: If you are unfamiliar with how file management works on an Apple computer, you can select the button highlighted above, which will present you with the following four file organization options.
Step 10: The four organization options listed above do not add or erase any files; they simply reorganize how the files are presented to make navigating the server easier.
