- Before these changes, my WiFi worked only 99% of the time
- But, I had to constantly cycle WiFi on my iPhone / iPads to reliably connect to new links (Tweets from notifications would take long to load, images in FB Messenger wouldn't load, going to new web pages were slow, etc)
- I used to always reboot my cable modem and wifi network hoping it would fix speed issues (it sometimes did)
- Now all links load instantly 🚀 and internet feels 10x faster
- No rocket science below, but it made a huge difference. Also, I'm not sure if all of the below is required
- YMMV
Equipment
- Bell Home Hub 2000
- 3x Eero Pro (Gen 2)
Principles
Speed tests are NOT a good indicator of working WiFi
- Speed tests routinely tell me I have high download / upload speed & low latency but my experience was poor
- Make sure you pause high bandwidth hogs while running the tests (for me these are Nest cameras and Google Backup and Sync) — Bell actually has a speedtest on the modem (you go to it via your modem admin panel) that blocks all local internet traffic to do an accurate speedtest
- After all the changes these benchmarks didn’t change much 😌 (and some went lower!), but my experience is clearly better
- List of Speed Tests
Don’t mix Eero hardware
- The Gen 2 hardware is triple band
- If any Gen 1 hardware is on the network, Eero will not use all the DFS channels
All Eeros must be wired with at least Cat 5e
- Remove all unwired Eeros (no exceptions)
