This game was never intended to be Call of Cthulu on horseback. But a world filled with magic will have its supernatural elements, and the world has monsters. These things are scary, and because it’s a new world, there’s a lot that should likely just be unknown. Cults are easy to make into villains and fit the Old Gods mythos quite nicely.

I’m leaning towards making any horror elements very much Southern Gothic (subtle, based on the sins of the people, unnerving and strange) to avoid this becoming too Cthulu-y and more western, and especially making is both scary and familiar (everyone knows not to go to the Old Shenk house on the hill) but I’m struggling with how to details this in lore without it taking over the game thematically.
