The Relationship...

Delta and AKQA have a close partnership, pretty unique as far as client/agency relationships go. Delta has partnered with AKQA since their first Fly Delta app, and AKQA is Delta's go-to partner for all their digital experiences as Digital Agency of Record. Delta and AKQA have been working together for nearly a decade, and we spend a lot of time together in the weeds making sure no one better connects the world.

Delta also began partnering with Virgin Atlantic to support their online booking experience, which led to the unique opportunity to build a themeable design system for expressive travel brands around the world.

Brief

This project was composed of dozen of feature briefs for the Delta.com website. It was the responsive redesign Delta and its customers had been waiting for. Delta already knew mobile booking was big thanks to their award-winning Fly Delta app. The Homepage redesign was the first phase of Delta moving its rich travel booking experience onto every device. The redesign was also the first introduction to the Fresh Air Design System to the public.

Role

On the Delta Homepage redesign, I was involved from Concept to Delivery as Senior UX Designer and design system governance team lead. I worked with several visual designers within AKQA, an art director, and creative lead to bring the project home. I was the main contact between AKQA and Delta's internal development team, usability team, and front-end engineers, and due to my sheer enthuasiasm and familiarity with the tool, got to host so many training meetings with stakeholders across disciplines in how to collaborate in Figma.
