"Helter Skelter" stages the first major exhibition presenting a creative dialogue between Arthur Jafa and Richard Prince—two generations of contemporary artists who share radical approaches to appropriating American popular culture imagery.
Arthur Jafa (b. 1960, Tupelo, Mississippi): Filmmaker, cinematographer, and visual artist. Golden Lion winner at 58th Venice Biennale (2019). His practice explores Black experience through film, artifacts, and happenings.
Richard Prince (b. 1949, Panama Canal Zone): Pioneer of Appropriation Art. Known for "Cowboy" series (re-photographed Marlboro Man). His work examines American pop culture and white masculinity.
