It's essential to offer your support to people in your community who need it! That's the most important thing you need to understand as a baseline. We cannot and will not make it through difficult times in solidarity, so if you're privileged enough to have the time and disposable income, now is the time to get your hands dirty!
- Food Banks: Food banks are a critical resource, and you should consider donating to them. Ideally, you should donate money rather than food if the food bank will accept it, as the vast majority of them have supplier deals and can stretch that money further than you can. If you can only donate goods, please be considerate and donate pull-tab cans if possible. If you can only donate cans without pull-tabs, please consider donating can openers as well.
- Support Groups: Your local community may already have local support groups set up, like soup kitchens or Meals on Wheels organisations. If you have time but not money, consider volunteering instead — they always need more pairs of hands!
- Political Organisations: Local left-leaning, socialist, and communist organisations often think about food scarcity and other poverty-related issues. If they're not organising aid on their own, they'll have plenty of ideas on how you can help!
