Main things for CE this week were:

Abstract for the TANC conference

I’m representing CE at the TANC conference on 26th April. We’re under the theme ‘Collaboration’. Last week I worked on an abstract to send, working in comments from Tim, Alex, Jane and Arran. It prompted a good conversation about what we mean when we say ‘national collection as verb’. In particular (from Alex) that we might need to say ‘National Collection as Verb, not noun’ to clarify the intervention.

We also tentatively explore slogans, which are pithy and hold together the social + machine.

Race and Decolonisation Working Group

We did a call out and got a great response. NIna has been looking at possible dates to run a reading group session, liasing with Daniel.

Next steps:

Leeds Black History work for the Social Machine Workshop

Possible workshop with Mama D Ujuaje - more on this in due course

Internal Comms for UoL

Had to get involved in a peice of internal communcations for Leeds… shows I need to learn better how to talk about what we’re doing!

We’re building relationships in Bradford at the moment, having met with Lizzie, Maggie and Tim in previous weeks.

Lizzie put us in touch with Karen Lewis from Bradford Metropolitan District Council’s Culture Team. Karen is the grants manager and they have funded a number - c. 20 - projects using NLHF money. We will send out a message to these projects via Karen.

I went to a Bradford 2025 networking drop in on Wednesday, which was fantastic. Saw lots of people I know from Bradford’s National Museum but also met pretty much everyone in the Bradford 2025 team. There was a lot of interest in our project. There have a creative technologist (Matt Allen) whose work is to support 2025 projects with digital upskilling, including archiving.
