The Commons is a community-based “Fourth Place” that catalyzes each member’s path to authenticity, full self-expression, and aliveness - rooted in the belief that community is essential to that journey.

If first place is home, second place is work, third places are public spaces like parks, cafes, bars, etc., then a fourth place is: A community space that nurtures the intellect, heart, and soul through deep exploration, open-ended reflection, and creative expression—inviting us beyond the boundaries of what’s known and into the field of emergent possibilities.

Located in the heart of San Francisco, we are redefining what it means to gather, work, and connect. By day, we’re a playful co-working space; by night, a vibrant community meeting house. Over the last three years, we’ve grown from a DIY passion project to a cultural institution that is bringing people together across lines of difference to explore, reflect, and create

🧭 Your role at a glance

As Head of Belonging, you’ll lead three major streams of work:

  1. Attracting values-aligned humans through storytelling, marketing, community outreach, and referrals.
  2. Designing and running a magical onboarding experience that guides each member through their first 30-60 days.
  3. Crafting relational infrastructure that ensures new members feel seen, supported, and invited into deeper connection.

You’ll manage communications across email, Substack, social, and Slack, and partner with the GM, Community Lead, and Ops team to evolve this core portal of transformation.

🪴 Why now’s the moment to join

Over the last 3 years, we have evolved from an intimate community experiment to a true public Commons. It’s not just a job, but a front-row seat to creating a new civic, spiritual, and social paradigm. You’ll help chart the blueprint for what America’s next “meaning-making” institutions could look like. In sum:
