To avoid any past sanitation issues and minimize the spread of illness and viruses, as well as to ensure all food is in accordance with Islamic dietary laws, the following guidelines must be followed by anyone wishing to host an iftar:
- Food Preparation Location:
- All food for iftar must be prepared in the kitchen of the restaurant at Masjidu Ahlis Sunnah.
- No food may be prepared at home or transferred to the Masjid.
- This ensures proper sanitation, hygiene, and food safety standards are maintained.
- Proper food handling procedures must be followed at all times.
- Handwashing is required before and during food preparation.
- Masjidu Ahlis Sunnah will comply with applicable food safety and FDA regulations to prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Halal Food Only:
- All food served during the iftar must be 100% Halal. No non-Zabiha meat or food from non-Halal sources will be allowed.
- All meats should be purchased from certified Halal meat markets. You must provide a receipt of purchase for all meat, chicken, or any other halal products.
- Be prepared to present receipts if requested by the Food Director or Masjid administration.
- Store-bought cooked food must be purchased from certified Halal restaurants only.
- Raw Meat Donations
- All raw donated meats must be frozen.
- Raw meats must be delivered the morning of your scheduled iftar.
- All meat will be inspected and verified before use.
- Joint Iftaars or Large Group Iftaars:
- For joint iftaars or those hosted by large groups, a menu must be formed in advance. All individuals involved will work together to create the menu and prepare the food in the Masjid's kitchen.
- Please do not bring individual dishes made home. This practice is no longer allowed due to concerns about contamination and illness.
- Catering:
- All iftar food must come from certified Halal restaurants.
- Food should be prepared at the restaurant and delivered in clean, sealed containers, ready on time for iftar.
- Utensils and Cleanup Responsibilities
- Hosts are responsible for providing all necessary utensils (plates, cups, bowls, forks, spoons, and napkins).
- The host is responsible for cleaning the entire eating area (brothers’ and sisters’ sides).
- Communal cleanup is always the responsibility of the iftaar host.
- All sanitation protocols directed by Masjid staff must be followed in both kitchen and dining areas.
- Cleanliness and Sanitation:
- Please ensure that you follow all sanitation protocols as directed by the Masjid staff to maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Handwashing and proper food handling must be followed at all times.
- Advance Booking:
- Booking for hosting iftar must be done in advance through the Masjid office. Ensure that you provide all necessary details about the menu and the number of people you intend to host.
- Respecting Time:
- All food should be ready and prepared on time for the iftar to ensure a smooth and timely meal for all attendees. (Arrive at least 1hr prior to iftaar time and placed inside warmers)
- Timely preparation ensures smooth service and an organized meal for all attendees.
We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines, and we ask Allah to bless these efforts and make our iftar gatherings successful in providing food for the fasting Muslims during Ramadan, Ameen.
