The job of a handyman will not change much in 5 to 10 years. The men and women that plumb your toilet, fix your bookshelf and construct your brand new baby room will continue to execute such jobs in 2030. For us this means that the handy- men and women will still benefit greatly of having a Ford Transit that enables them to move anywhere without losing access to their own tools and materials. We made the assumption that a handy- man or woman remains to be the lower educated but hard working citizen that just want to get the job done between 08:00 and 17:00. Our second assumption is that being done before 17:00 is rarely the case because of mainly overdue paperwork that still needs to be done.

Our assumption is that, besides the physical efforts of being a handy - man or woman, paperwork gives another mental effort. Filling out invoices, double-checking orders and other job related paperwork will remain to be a part of the job. However in the future this process is digitised and always available because it is stored in the cloud. We want to use the digitised data that is gained throughout the day as an extension for the car its ecosystem. Creating a seamless integration of a device that is both used in- and outside of the car enables the car to have contextual understanding of the handy - man's and woman's job. This results in a car that can give feedback on the day-to-day tasks to support the user in a both physical and mental way.
We introduce a tablet sized device that is both the vans central driving processor and a tablet that supports other tasks. The device is an essential part of the car that allows the user to enter and start up the van. Starting up is done by docking the tablet in the dashboard which next to starting up the engine, simultaneously makes the car aware of the context the user is residing in.
When the handy - man or woman arrives at a job he or she can undock the tablet to use it outside the van. Because of the fact that everything is digitised the device has contextual knowledge about the job and current whereabouts thus presents relevant information such as current status, open invoices etc.
