What games / activities will be there? How will guests know what to do?

There will be outdoor games and activities designed for the entire family. Competitive activities include the 3-point shootout, Axe Throwing, and Chip Shot Golf. These events will be refereed / scored so that we can award prizes and announce winners. Guests can also participate in volleyball, spike ball, corn-hole, 3v3 basketball, and soccer. See event map below.

Will there be activities for kids?

Yes! We will have 2 large bounce houses; an obstacle course bounce house and a large bounce-slide combo. There will be face-painting, cotton candy, carnival games, and soccer for kids.

The announcement during service mentioned axe throwing at 10am, what time does the event actually start as the flyer indicates a 12-3pm event time?

Our goal is to have an event that attendees at both our 9am and 11:15am services can enjoy without having to leave campus and return. We will provide donuts for breakfast at the conclusion of the 9am service. Then our 9am attendees can head to the FDC grounds and begin competitive games. The bounce houses will be open for kids at that time. The BBQ lunch will begin at 11:45am for our 9am attendees and continue through 3pm. All activities will be staffed, ready to go by the end of our 11:15am service.

Why do we have to register? What happens if someone doesn't register online / before the event?

Registration is to ensure we have an adequate count for meals, provide followup opportunities, and to ensure contact info (email) in order to announce prize winners. Each adult participant will receive a ticket for the catered BBQ dinner. There will also be hot dogs and hamburgers available for kids and adults. Kids will also be served smaller portions of the BBQ lunch if preferred. BBQ Lunch includes: chopped pork, chicken, BBQ beans, cole slaw, garlic bread, cornbread, Hawaiian rolls, sweet tea, unsweetened tea, lemonade, a variety of BBQ sauces

What if I don't register (or I don't want to register, or have too many families to register)?

Registrations help us to keep count and allows us to acknowledge you via email thanking you for attending. We will not maintain the list of Father's Day Cookout emails past a single followup email after the event (unless you win a prize - we need to know how to get it to you).

What do we need to bring?

Bring your tents and lawn chairs and any outdoor sports equipment you'd want to use while there (e.g., footballs, soccer balls, etc). While we will have plenty of seating at round tables under a large tent for meals, you're encouraged to bring your pop-up tents and lawn chairs. Bring plenty of sunscreen.

What did you mean in the announcement by "come to church ready to play"?

We want attendees at our 9am and 11:15am services to feel free to dress for the cookout. You're welcomed to wear your summer clothes (T's, shorts, flip flops, athletic shoes, etc) to our church services and be prepared for some fun in the sun!

Do you need volunteers?

Absolutely! We need folks to oversee and score games, help with food service and cookout grounds, serve at the registration tables, and help with parking. The more volunteers we have, the better we're able to serve others and keep the service time slots short. You can sign up to volunteer with the registration link (below) or email [email protected]

Why are we having such a big event for father's when we only gave flowers for Mother's Day?

Pastor Mike approached the leadership a few weeks ago and shared his heart concerning Father's in Gainesville. He wanted to come up with a way to celebrate and encourage dads in our church and community, but he also wanted us to think more broadly on how to better disciple and connect with families. The Father's Day Cookout will be the first in a series of events aimed at connecting with our local community.
