• Gram negative cocci = Neisseria meningitidis + Neisseria gonorrhoeae, also Moraxella

Therefore, only a small list of Gram positive rods (bacilli) need to be memorised to categorise all bacteria - mnemonic = ABCDE L

Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae is a Gram-positive, catalase-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, non-acid-fast, non-motile bacterium.

It is most frequently associated as an occupational disease of butchers.
