🙌 Introduction
Your video biography is an essential tool which, when done well, will help attract as many students as possible.
Qualifications and experience are without question incredibly important and carry great weight. For this reason we only accept CELTA & DELTA qualified teachers.
We want to maximise your opportunities to get new students. Think of us as your personal sales team. To get things started, we have included our advice on what to do for your video below. Additionally, you will have a personal call with our team to work on your profile.
🎥 Video Bio
Video bios play a vital role in helping students finalise their decision about which teacher to work with. Please see our guidance below:
-
Prepare your environment 🌍
- Ideally, the background should be a room, rather than a wall directly behind. Make sure the background is tidy and inviting. Pictures on walls, bookshelves, mirrors, furniture, etc all add to a pleasant atmosphere.
- If your room is literally terrible, then sticking to a preferably white wall background is ok.
- Make sure your room is well-lit, best to do the video during the day with natural light beaming onto your beautiful face.
-
Prepare your camera 🎥
- Video quality should be 720p minimum
- Record your video horizontally, and make sure it's completely still
- Make sure the camera is level with your eyes
- Upload to either Vimeo or YouTube
- If you want to add subtitles in post-production, that would be amazing. However, it's not compulsory!
- Please no background music, green screens, additional imagery. The simpler, the better.
- Your video should really be no longer than 60 seconds.
-
Prepare yourself 🦉
- Look presentable and dress according to the type of student you are targeting but without feeling completely alien! Do bear in mind that we are more focused on Business English.
- If you wear glasses, that's great. However, if you're looking into a screen whilst recording, there is usually a reflection which means one or both of your eyes are just a reflection of the screen: a bright white space. Which looks odd! So please remember this when filming. In many cases, it might be easier to take your glasses off.
- Avoid using clunky headphones or any headphones at all in the video. It's not a great look. We of course understand you will use them for your actual lessons, but for the video - best to avoid.
- Speak loudly and clearly
- Let your character come through, we're not looking for robots! 🤖
- Smile! 😃
-
