Table of Contents
Apps
- 🌍 Too Good to Go: The global king in this space. Buy good-quality food in bulk and at a hefty discount, from stores and restaurants that would have to throw it out otherwise.
- 🌍 Nosh: Food inventory tracking for your phone, including barcode/QR scanning, statistics, and recipe scanning. They’re also trialling a discount “nosh shop” in a few locations.
- 🌍 NoWaste: Nosh alternative, just in case it’s not available in your region. Stock tracking for your kitchen, up to 500 items for free, but no free barcode scanning.
- 🌍 Olio: App for sharing items with your neighbours and other local people. Not specifically food-centric, but worth keeping an eye on.
Websites
- 🌍 Budget Bytes: Affordable, healthy recipes, including US Dollar prices. Most of the content is free, but there's a subscription for weekly meal plans as well.
- 🌍 Dollar a Day Project by Less Is Enough: A pretty old project, where the author shows how they managed to survive for a month on one dollar a day. Expect prices to be higher today, but it's still a good source of information.
Self Hosted Software

⚠️
This software may be complex to set up and use. If you’re not a big fan of technology, ask a nerdy friend to help. If you’re one of those nerdy friends I mentioned, consider setting up a communal instance for your local area, friends, or family, if you think it’d be useful.

- 🌍 Grocy is a free grocery and household management solution, which you can use like the NoWaste and Nosh apps mentioned above, but is web-based and needs to be hosted. Simpler options are available if you only need to access this on one computer.
