Younglings, ixo and RLabs are forming a ReFi Local Node in Cape Town to nurture community conversations around Web3 enabled regenerative-oriented-innovations (ROIs) and address some of our cities most pressing challenges through hackathons, incubation and investment. These include inequality, youth unemployment, and a general lack of access to resource flows such as energy, water, sanitation, housing and education.
Kindly donate to our grant so we can start our journey of youth-led education for regeneration! With a match funding pool of over $250k thanks to the amazing Gitcoin community, every single dollar makes a big difference!
We intend to raise: 25,000USD that will be well spent to generate the following ambitious outcomes:
- Engage the local community: Host three ReFi Cape Town events over the next three months. These will include expert guest speakers in ReFi, Web3 and urban challenges in African cities. There will be 12 hackathons hosted as part of these events with bounties for winners. We hope to engage young people from from RLabs, Younglings, and YOMA. We also hope to engage the City of Cape Town, Western Cape Government, Department of Basic Education, Stellenbosch University Centre for Sustainability Transitions, University of Cape Town, African Centre for Cities, ICLEI Africa, UNICEF, and private sector organisations interested in Web3 and sustainability.
- Support Web3 and regenerative-oriented-innovations (ROIs): Incubate and invest in three social enterprises that come out of ReFi Cape Town hackathons.
- Youth Market Place for Africa (YOMA): Develop and test a decentralised funding mechanism for 120 students to recieve “Learn to Earn” pathways in the digital and green economy.
- Human resources: Support a small core team growing the ReFi Cape Town ecosystem with a humble salary.
