Getting Started

Unboxing the Mystery transforms standard Foundry VTT journals and items into interactive physical puzzles. It adds a layer of tactile mystery to your game, requiring players to physically interact with the screen to reveal hidden loot, secret notes, or ancient lore.

🎯 What is Unboxing the Mystery?

This module replaces the immediate display of journal pages and item sheets with an interactive overlay. Instead of just reading text, your players might need to crack a wax seal, scratch away layers of dust, or pick a mechanical lock to see what's inside.

It works across all game systems and provides a unique way to handle "identified" items, locked chests, or encrypted data terminals. By turning a simple click into a mini-game, you create memorable moments of tension and discovery at your table.

📋 Requirements

Before you begin, ensure your environment meets these basic needs:

• Foundry VTT Version: v12 or higher. The module is fully verified for v13.
• System Compatibility: This module is system agnostic. It works with any game system you use, from D&D to indie narrative games.
• Enhanced Automation: While it works everywhere, it includes built-in currency support for D&D 5e and PF2e to streamline gacha pulls.
• Optional Module: Cinematic Cut-ins. If installed, this enables high-impact reveal effects and animations during gacha pulls.

🚀 Quick Start: Your First Unboxing

Setting up your first interactive journal page takes less than a minute. Follow these steps to create a simple "Wax Seal" unboxing.

1. Preparing the Journal

1. Open any existing Journal Entry in your sidebar.
2. Look at the window header in the top right corner. You'll see a new 🎁 (gift) icon next to the standard controls.
3. Click the 🎁 icon to open the Unboxing Settings window.

2. Choosing a Mode

1. The window opens to the Basic tab by default.
