Geriatric Failure to thrive

Deconditioning
Deconditioning in hospitalized patients is very common, and typically occurs in elderly patients with severe illnesses that result in prolonged bedrest and immobility. Other risk factors for deconditioning include preexisting disability and coexistent chronic medical conditions. Management consists of a multi-faceted team approach (including PT, nutrition, Psychosocial support, & medical Mx) to restore the patient's pre-morbid functional status.
