What is a union?
A union is a group of workers who build collective power and workplace democracy to negotiate with their employer. Our union functions through majority participation in the workplace, collective bargaining instead of individual begging, and democratic decision-making. We make big decisions like what we bargain for or whether to go on strike together.
Am I in our union?
If you are paid by the university and your job lasts longer than 30 days, you are part of our union! This includes RAs who are paid in Stipends. ASUO officers who receive stipends, GTFF members with Graduate Employee positions, and classified staff are not included.
How do I get involved?
Fill out the Contact Us form to talk to an organizer in your department. Join our Discord to get connected with other workers.
What are we doing?
We are currently bargaining our first contract! Check out our Trello to see where we’re at and join our Discord channel for live updates.
Do I have to pay dues?
Not yet. We don’t pay dues until our first contract. Once we win our contract, our dues will be 1.44% of our paychecks (less than Spotify for many of us). Dues are optional but incredibly important for our union to function well as they provide access to resources like email services to keep us updated on the bargaining process, staff to help everything stay organized and an office to store our materials and have meetings.
