UX/UI interface architecture for in-vehicle mobility systems — designing the interaction logic, screen flows, and component standards that ship inside commercial vehicles at scale.
🚗 Client: General Motors · Role: Visual Designer (Contract via ICONMA & People Tech Group) · Scope: UX/UI Interface Design, Interaction Documentation, Design Standards · Year: 2021–2022
Led UX/UI interface design for GM's in-vehicle infotainment system, architecting screen flows, interaction states, and component standards across the full audio and connectivity experience.
The work required operating at the intersection of visual design and engineering precision, producing interaction documentation and scalable interface components that met technical requirements while delivering a coherent, driver-focused user experience.
In-vehicle UI operates under constraints that screen-based digital products don't face: driver attention limitations, hardware display specifications, physical input methods, and regulatory safety requirements all shape what a design can and cannot do.
GM required interface components and interaction flows precise enough for engineering handoff, not comps to be interpreted, but specifications to be built.
Designed the full infotainment homepage architecture establishing navigation hierarchy across vehicle, audio, phone, maps, and music categories. Built complete audio experience flows covering AM, FM, SXM, Bluetooth Music, Spotify integration, USB, CarPlay, and Android Auto. Documented interaction states for edge cases including Bluetooth not found, device pairing flows, and queue management. Contributed scalable interface components to the broader product ecosystem used across vehicle lines. Partnered directly with engineering and product teams to align visual standards with technical implementation requirements.
Delivered interaction-ready UI specifications supporting GM's infotainment product across commercial vehicle lines. Built interface components at the component level — designed to be implemented, not interpreted. Established visual standards enabling consistent design execution across the product ecosystem.
