Hey everyone, after being selected for GSoC 2020, there's a great summer full of open source development. This is the sixth weekly check-in and we're into the coding period. Here's what I've been up to this week

This week is great and although we faced some challenges, we have finished most of the old stuff and are going to start new things. The best part of this week is we get to solve bugs and learn from other awesome people.

What I'm up to this week ?

This week is mostly focused on solving bugs, doing some pending tasks, and starting new things. This week we try to start working on a new scraper, called opened (on which neither me nor my mentor has experience working). The first step is to analyse things and documenting what works, and what not.

Finally, I get to work on something new. Its openedx time. I'm excited to get my hands dirty with it.

As of now, the TED multi-zim support is there in zimfarm and the youtube playlists support too. We'll soon test new recipes. For Gutenberg, the s3 support finally seems to be ready (awaiting a review). I did faced some problems with this, but this works as of now.

What's ahead now?

I've tried to work a bit on openedx and we have to start working on it in a full flegged manner now. Also, the youtube video in TED is something that needs to be worked upon. So, for now, the major thing seems to be openedx. Also, I think we may get rid of the sotoki issues with the latest updates but we still need to test it on zimfarm.

Challenges I faced

This week had some unseen challenges pop up. But it seems that we've solved them all. Firstly, the Gutenberg S3 had a few bugs. But now we do have a more robust version there. For the zimfarm, we needed to make build directories temporary, though it was more of an enhancement for youtube and ted. Also, I need to think about the youtube and ted throttling handling in ted2zim.

Verdict

I know I can write many things in this section, but let's keep it short this time. These 3 words perfectly describe my feelings - GSoC is awesome.
