Hey everyone, after being selected for GSoC 2020, there's a great summer full of open source development. This is the thirteenth weekly check-in and we're into the coding period. Here's what I've been up to this week

After solving bugs last week, this new week was awesome and I put my attention towards some new things, along with the old ones. This week I have also started working on scraperlib stuff and there seem great things ahead.

What I'm up to this week ?

This week, I started with the openedx things and tried to solve the audio thing and the fetching of fonts correctly. I have also started working on the new UI for openedx as that's what I think would solve the other bugs with openedx, and on the inclusion of the optimization thing in the zimscraperlib. Hopefully, I will have a working implementation of the optimization thing by today.

We might finally start testing openedx ZIMs on zimfarm this week, and that's great it seems.

Talking about the current scenario, the layout in openedx is fixed, audio playback is fixed, and we do have support for newer openedx params in zimfarm.

What's ahead now?

It seems that we might go forward with the zimscraperlib things and the inclusion of the youtube hosted videos in TED, but we would need to keep working on the openedx things too. Also, we might want to look at the TED UI after looking into the openedx UI.

Challenges I faced

This week had its own challenges, I basically started with a refactor of the problem xblock extractor in openedx and wanted to get hints too but basically that is a bit tricky it seems and hence its a work in progress as of now. Also I had unstable electricity for two days, and that made me lose some work time. But that's okay as I will make up for it in the coming week.

Verdict

GSoC gives awesome opportunities, and basically, that happens every week. It drives you through challenges and makes sure you don't give up. And that's what I like the most about it. I only have 4 words to say - GSoC is super awesome.
