This section is here for posterity as a place for current and future writers to enjoy some of the funny or awesome milestones from Duffel Blog over the years.
Gizmodo writer Jesus Diaz wrote an article in August 2012 about the “inverted multi-purpose ballistic tomahawk bayonet,” citing Duffel Blog as a legitimate source. He later had to strikethrough the entire thing and add a note at the end which read:
“Aaaaaand I was wrong. As reader Leah tells me, the Duffelblog is the equivalent of the Onion in the military. The problem with the US military is that sometimes their contraptions get so wacky that I can believe anything they say. My mistake, people. Sorry about that.”
We have yet to top this episode from 2013. In response to an Oct. 2012 Duffel Blog article headlined “Guantanamo Prisoners To Receive GI Bill Benefits,” the office of Sen. Mitch McConnell got an embarrassing wake up call after Wired reported that they had sent a letter (signed by McConnell!) to the Pentagon asking them to look into the matter.
While speaking to The Washington Post for a profile of Duffel Blog in 2013, Mattis said:
<aside> 👉 “Duffel Blog is a beautifully crafted response to an increasingly stuffy environment in today’s America. Duffel Blog reminds us of much of what we in the military fight for — the freedom to think our own way and to laugh about the absurdities without being mean-spirited.”
