About us

Wine is the UK's most popular alcoholic drink – and yet, very few people feel confident talking about it, buying it or drinking it.

At Wine List, we believe that armed with a little bit of knowledge, you can find pleasure in every bottle you drink.

But – the way you can learn about wine today is broken. You either have to study very formally via an in-person course, or you can learn passively through coffee table books.

At Wine List, we make learning as fun, accessible, and non-pretentious as possible.

To date, we have produced the first wine subscription box focused on learning. Thousands of members take part in virtual tastings, learn at home with our wine course, and taste the very best wines we import from small, low intervention winemakers.

But we are now looking to a digital-first future.

We're an early stage team of six. We've just raised our seed round, and are based in-office in Camberwell, South London.

About this role

We are hiring our first ever engineer.

For the last 18 months, Wine List has been grown to supporting thousands of customers on no- and low-code platforms. But as we look towards our future, our ambitions are outgrowing this.

We've just completed version 0.1 of our new learning platform. This guides users through a digital course as they learn how wine is made, and what affects its taste.

Think Masterclass meets Duolingo – or at least that's the vision.

We want to build an online learning experience that brings together thousands of community members. We want to make the best consumer learning experience in food & drink. And we want to make ordering wine by the glass, through your letterbox, as easy as sending flowers. And we've got plenty more planned as well.

We need a full-stack engineer to come in to help us build from the ground up.

This is a turning point of our business, we've raised our seed round and now look forward as we want to scale our product around the world.

There are immediate requirements to get our desktop site to a true version 1. But beyond that, we need to start building our app experience.

Given those requirements, our initial stack will be built around javascript with experience of Express, Node, and React Native preferred.

There is no internal product design resource, and so we are also looking for someone a design-focused engineer.
