I’m “The Shoeshine Guy,” and shined shoes during the Spring and Summer on Wednesdays in front of 3 Lebanon Street in Hanover for the past 5 years... the former home of The Skinny Pancake. This year, I decided to move to the Lebanon Mall in order to get more foot traffic. The Ledyard Charter School agreed to house my shoeshine rig, and I agreed to donate all my shine revenues to the school.

Unfortunately, the tunnel and upper deck renovation projects have blocked off my access to storage. So, I haven’t done any shoe-shining this Fall. Bums me out since I really like shining shoes, meeting people, and donating all of the proceeds to charity.

The upper deck of the Mall Project should be over in mid-December or so. That means I will miss the entire Fall season. I’ll start up again in person in April.

So I had this idea to start a pick-up and delivery service. If people leave their shoes and boots in a bag outside on their porch or by their mailbox, I’ll come by to pick them up and will return them the next day. I suggest a donation to Ledyard Charter School of $5 for the pickup and delivery service and $3 for each pair of shoes. But any amount would be fine...those are just suggestions. I’d like to try this out from now until Thanksgiving.

While I will really miss the in-person experience with my customers, this will at least give me a chance to shine some shoes and raise some money for Ledyard Charter School. And people can get their winter shoes and boots all shined up before the snow comes!

I started a new Gmail account for people to get in touch with me if they want to give it a try: [email protected]. Just get in touch!
