When I first accepted the role of Content Writer for Division A, I thought it would be just about writing a few posts. Little did I know, it would ignite a powerful journey of Toastmasters leadership, transforming my communication skills, creativity, and confidence as a leader.
In June 2024, I received a message from then Division A Director DTM Muskan inviting me to join the PR team as a content writer. Writing was my passion and profession, so I gladly accepted. But the truth? I was clueless at first. With the support of mentors, I started experimenting, and slowly I found my voice.
When my initial term ended, I thought my journey was over. Instead, I was re-elected. Soon after, my club’s VP PR role unexpectedly opened up. Unsure but determined, I decided to take it. I even went to the previous VP PR’s home to learn everything, from Canva design to engagement strategies.
At the same time, I was invited to join the District PR Team. Overnight, I found myself handling three club officer roles, at the club, division, and district. Overwhelming? Yes. But these challenges became stepping stones in my leadership journey.
Each role taught me lessons I could never have learned from a book:
Decision Making & Conflict Resolution Skills
Whether choosing campaign themes or balancing creative differences, I learned how to take quick decisions while keeping harmony intact.
Mentorship & Team Management
Training members in PR, allocating tasks, and asking people to create reels or share ideas taught me that an effective mentor empowers others. Leadership means not just shining alone, but building a motivated team.
Communication & Meeting Facilitation
From writing engaging content to leading PR discussions, I discovered how to present ideas clearly, motivate teams, and develop my presentation skills.
Time Management & Balance
Juggling family life with three PR roles tested me. But it taught me to prioritize, delegate, and respect deadlines, the skills every effective leader needs.
Growing Through Resilience and Creativity
My work didn’t stop at writing. I created and managed social media profiles on LinkedIn, Google, Instagram, and other platforms. I designed flyers, posters, reels, and videos, all while learning how to boost public speaking confidence and engagement through creative campaigns.
I became a source of connection for many, sharing announcements in groups, exchanging ideas, and strengthening the bridge between members. Many times I had to rework designs, captions, or flyers for perfection, but those moments built my resilience. I also developed the habit of listening carefully, because I realized that catching details early saves time and avoids errors later.
